Students have a few choices for pursuing a foreign language degree in Charlotte. Queens University of Charlotte offers programs in foreign languages, Spanish, French and Teaching English as a Second Language. The University of North Carolina at Charlotte offers programs in French, French teacher, German, German teacher, Spanish, Spanish teacher and Teaching English as a Second Language (TESL).
The overall employment outlook for Charlotte is expected to reach 17% by the year 2012. The foreign speaking population increase will result in jobs for interpreters and translators increasing by about 23%. Approximately 10,000 students in Charlotte public schools speak a foreign language. In addition, the district offers foreign language magnet programs. This will result in teaching opportunities for foreign language and ESL teachers. Employment opportunities for bilingual, ESL and foreign language teachers at the elementary level will increase by 15% and by 30% for secondary and post secondary teachers.
