A number of psychology degree programs can be found in Charlotte and surrounding cities. The University of North Carolina at Charlotte provides undergraduate and graduate psychology degrees covering various specialties in the field. There are also psychology programs at Johnson C. Smith University and Queens University of Charlotte. Davidson College in nearby Davidson also offers a very rigorous undergraduate psychology degree program.

Employment opportunities for Charlotte psychologists are currently growing at a healthy rate. The number of clinical, counseling, and school psychologists employed full-time in Mecklenburg County is currently rising at an annual rate of 3.21%. Employment for post-secondary psychology teachers is increasing at an annual rate of 4.33%. Based on government employment estimates from 2004, there are currently about 380 and 150 people employed in these career areas, respectively, in the Charlotte area – not at all bad for a city of its size.
